Under the leadership of the late Head Coach Tommy Lawrence, this extraordinary team achieved historic milestones that continue to inspire athletes and fans alike. Coach Lawrence was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993.

The 1973 season was a transformative year for Benjamin Logan Schools. Following the merger with Belle Center, the team transitioned from Division A to Division AA, facing a higher level of competition. Despite the challenges, they rose to the occasion with remarkable victories, including an upset over Division AAA Greenon.

Key accomplishments of the 1973 team include:
  • Securing the school’s first-ever league championship.
  • Posting a .737 winning percentage, the second-highest in school history.
  • Averaging 69.9 points per game, a record that remains the second-best in school history.
  • Setting the school record for the fewest losses in a season (5), a feat that still stands 49 years later.
  • Having all five starters average double figures in scoring.
  • Earning three spots on the all-league second team for individual players.
"What we accomplished together in one season was extraordinary," said the team’s nominator. "We didn’t grow up playing together like kids do now—we came from three different schools. But in just one year, we created a team that made history."

Coach Lawrence’s leadership was instrumental in their success. "He was more than a coach—he was a visionary. He pushed us to play tougher teams, including AA and AAA schools, and we rose to the challenge," shared the nominator.

The team's unique bond and achievements have left a lasting impact on the community. "It’s been almost 50 years, but our record for the fewest losses in a season still stands. That says something about the determination and heart of that group."

Reflecting on the team’s camaraderie, the nominator remarked, "The games may have ended, but the friendships have never faded. We’re still close, and that season will always hold a special place in our lives."
