“Math Minds” Tutoring

Several years ago Benjamin Logan Middle School designed a tutoring program, “Math Minds”, that allowed our middle school students to get assistance with their Math while working with a high school student.  National Honor Society members volunteer to help the middle school students one day after school for an hour.  In exchange, the high school students earn service credit hours toward their NHS requirements.  It’s a WIN-WIN for all students involved!

We are fortunate to have fourteen high school students helping twenty four middle school students and reviewing those math topics that they may be struggling with.  The tutoring time often involves one-on-one or small group instruction, assistance with homework, Math computer games, and Math “stations” that the students circulate through.  Coordination among the Math teachers helps in determining the needs for each student.

We’re excited that the “Math Minds” tutoring program has become so successful! The middle school students look forward to working with their HS peer and “learning” during this educational opportunity!
